Burnley are still a work in progress, says Dyche

Cape Town - Burnley manager Sean Dyche is convinced that his charges still have the potential to improve despite an impressive start to their campaign.

The Clarets are currently eighth in the top-flight table after securing 12 points from eight games in 2019/20.

They started the season well by comfortably beating Southampton 3-0 on the opening day and have also tasted victory in two other home games.

A 2-0 win against Norwich came on September 21 while they also beat Everton 1-0 on October 5 at Turf Moor.

It has been an encouraging campaign so far for Dyche's team after they struggled at the start of last season.

Following their seventh-place finish in the 2017/18 season, Burnley qualified for the Europa League but were knocked out before the group stage by Olympiakos and spent the first half of last season languishing in the bottom three of the Premier League.

However, they have now put that run behind them and are looking strong so far this term.

Dyche has been complimentary about their typical never-say-die attitude, which has become a feature of their game since being promoted back to the Premier League in 2016.

Ever the perfectionist though, the former Watford boss is also confident there is room for further improvement in the technical side of the game.

"It's a very difficult task for us going through every season, trying to play well every week, and technically play well," Dyche said.

"But the one thing we've managed to do is, if that side of our game isn't as pure as it could be - which it often isn't, it's still a work in progress - all the things that factor in winning a match, we do well.”

The Clarets are set to face a tough-looking trip to Leicester on Saturday following the conclusion of the international break.

Dyche will be hopeful that Johann Berg Gudmundsson is not too seriously injured after lasting only 14 minutes of Iceland's 1-0 defeat to France in their recent Euro 2020 qualifier.
