Black Cats loan Denayer

Cape Town - Sunderland manager David Moyes has bolstered his defensive options with the season-long loan signing of Jason Denayer from Manchester City.

It will be the third consecutive season the 21-year-old has spent away from the Etihad Stadium after successful loan spells with Celtic in the Scottish Premier League in the 2014/15 campaign, where he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year, and Galatasaray last term, where he won the Turkish Cup.

He represented both clubs in the Champions League and Sunderland will be hoping to use that experience in what promises to be a tough battle against relegation this season.

Despite his tender age, Denayer has already been capped eight times by the Belgium senior national side.

The move is fairly surprising on City's part as, after the departure of Eliaquim Mangala on loan to Valencia, the club only has three senior centre-backs and one of them, Vincent Kompany, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
