Berghuis leaves Watford, returns to De Kuip

Cape Town - Feyenoord have finally completed the permanent signing of winger Steven Berghuis on a four-year contract from English Premier League side Watford.

Berghuis is no stranger to De Kuip after spending a season-long loan with Giovanni Van Bronckhorst's men and has been in limbo about his long-term future since the expiry of the temporary switch.

The 25-year-old was an integral part of De Stadionclub's fluid attacking system that brought them their first Eredivisie title since 1999.

Seven goals and six assists in the league in 30 appearances convinced the Dutch side to prioritise his return and the Netherlands international was pleased to sign the deal - after failing to establish himself with the Hornets.

"Steven proved last season that he is a player with exceptional qualities. With his creativity, free-kicks and nose for goal he was very valuable to us," the club's technical director Martin van Geel said upon his unveiling.

"I'm happy that we have reached agreement with Watford and Steven and that we have been able to contract him before the first official match of the season."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
