Benni: Mourinho more loved than Pep

Cape Town - Former English Premiership star Benni McCarthy believes Jose Mourinho is more respected and loved by his players than Pep Guardiola.

McCarthy, who enjoyed a successful spell under Mourinho at Porto, is also convinced that Mourinho will help Manchester United win silverware in the coming seasons.

The 38-year-old had some taste of success in England's top flight - he banged in 52 goals in 140 appearances for Blackburn Rovers before his career stagnated at West Ham United.

Bafana Bafana's greatest ever goalscorer later finished his career with a prolific spell at Orlando Pirates.

Nonetheless, the Cape Town-born star is adamant that Mourinho's coaching talent and man-management skills will bring success to United.

He told Soccer Laduma: "He is a fantastic manager and a great coach, but he also has great man-management skills and he's known for winning titles wherever he goes."

He added that these qualities lead Mourinho to be more loved by his players than Guardiola: "The most important thing is that 99% of his players have something nice or respectful to say about him, whereas Guardiola is only loved by a few of his favourites."
