Benitez: Newcastle in need of more signings

Cape Town - Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez admits the team needs more signings this transfer window, but added that some players may need to be sold first.

Club owner Mike Ashley previously assured Benitez that "every penny the club generates" from their promotion to the Premier League and the sale of players will be made available for signings.

However, Benitez remains frustrated with the lack of signings, having added only five players to their roster for the new season.

"We know what we need and we will try to do this until the end of the transfer window," Benitez said, according to Sky Sports.

"We are now trying to move in different directions at the same time."

The need for fresh faces at Newcastle further intensified with the recent injury to striker Dwight Gayle, who played a vital part for the Magpies as they won the Championship last season.

Benitez and Newcastle will welcome Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday to St James' Park as the Premier League kicks off this weekend.

Kick off is at 14:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
