Benfica: Ederson deal not done yet

Cape Town - Benfica have confirmed negotiations with Manchester City for the transfer of goalkeeper Ederson, although they insist nothing has been finalised.

The Citizens are expected to complete a £35 million deal for the 23-year-old, who was seen at the Etihad Campus on Tuesday to undergo a medical.

But City must wait a little longer before they can announce their second off-season signing, with midfielder Bernardo Silva having joined from Monaco for a fee of £43m last week.

A statement from the Portuguese champions read: "Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Futebol, SAD hereby informs, under the terms and for the purpose of the provisions of article 248 of the Code of Securities, that it is in negotiations with Manchester City for the transfer of the rights of the athlete Ederson Moraes, which have not yet been completed."

When the move does go through, the Brazilian will become the most expensive keeper in football, eclipsing the £33m Juventus paid Parma to land Italian icon Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
