London - The
agent of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has revealed that the
fullback is on the verge of signing a new extended contract at the north
London club.
The Spaniard's current deal still has over two years to run, but representative Albert Botines stated that his client is looking forward to adding a few more years on to his stay at the Gunners.
"We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign," he told Sky Sports.
"Hector is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress."
Bellerin had been linked with a return to Barcelona, but joked last month that he wouldn't even answer the phone if they called.
"If I wanted to play [at Barca] I would have stayed there," he said. "I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to come here. I'm not looking back, I'm just looking to help Arsenal."
The 21-year-old has put in a string of exceptional performances since breaking into Arsenal's first-team and was voted into the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2016 at the PFA Awards in April.
The Spanish right-back has become a permanent fixture in the Gunners team, using his lightning quick pace in attack and cover defence.
