Batshuayi: 'I have to play more'

Cape Town - Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi knows that his hopes of representing Belgium at the 2018 World Cup are in jeopardy if he stays at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old has featured sporadically in his first season in the Premier League, making 20 appearances and scoring five goals, including the one that clinched the title. His next three goals followed in the final two games of the season.

The former Standard Liege prodigy knows that he has not been playing often enough since joining from Marseille, and he could seek a move elsewhere depending on what Chelsea have planned for him.

"I'm going to listen to what they are saying and afterwards I'll discuss it with my agent and the club. Amicably, as friends of course," he said.

"A loan? That's not up to me. That's up to them. They take the decisions, not me.

"Everyone knows that I have to play more, that I have to score goals. There's a World Cup coming up next year. I want to be ready for the World Cup."

Another season on the bench for the Blues could see Batshuayi miss out with the national team for Russia 2018, where his rivals for a place in the team include Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas, Divock Origi of Liverpool, Dries Maartens of Napoli, and Crystal Palace striker Chrisian Benteke.
