Balotelli open to Chievo switch

Cape Town - Mario Balotelli is reportedly open to a move to Serie A side Chievo with club president Luca Campedelli insisting that signing the Italian international would be a dream.

Balotelli, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan, is unwanted by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and has been searching for a new team all summer.

There has been interest in certain quarters for the 25-year-old, namely from Ajax, Besiktas, Sampdoria and Crotone, but so far no deal has materialised.

"Dreaming doesn't cost anything. At the moment, it does remain a dream because we know that it would be very difficult to pull off such a move," Campedelli told reporters.

"We must take into account the obvious difficulties in economic terms, but it is something we are looking at.

"However, when you are coming up against the big clubs, then Chievo certainly can't compete at that level."

And Balotelli responded simply by adding: "I would go to Chievo."

Meanwhile, only Chievo director of sport Luca Nember appears to be playing down a potential move.

He told Italiacalcio24.it: "He's too expensive.

"He has another two years of his Liverpool contract and they paid 20m euros for him. We doubt Liverpool would just give him away. If they want to give him to us as a gift, then that's another matter.

"In these cases, it's a big gap between reality and ideas. It is a very difficult negotiation prospect. We would like Balotelli, but he's not a priority."
