Cape Town - Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi looks poised to depart England in the off-season, with Atletico Madrid reportedly leading the race for his signature.
The Manchester City and Argentina international is ready to move on from the Etihad, with Pep Guardiola refusing to stand in his way.
Otamendi's former club Valencia, along with West Ham United, were the early frontrunners but Atletico have made their own pitch during the past week.
And the Spanish giants are confident the 31-year-old will opt for the Wanda Stadium to replace outgoing veteran Diego Godin.
Otamendi's agent, Jorge Mendes, also represents Atletico's defensive midfielder Rodrigo, with the Citizens prepared to pay his £60m release clause.
There is even potential for Otamendi being used as a possible £20 million makeweight, which may suit both parties.
Otamendi was signed for £28m back in 2015 but he has played less this term and knows Guardiola is wanting to bring in a younger option during the close season.
