Arsenal or Everton? Ancelotti set for talks in UK - report

Cape Town - Arsenal are reportedly looking to hold talks with Carlo Ancelotti after the Italian manager was sacked by Napoli on Tuesday night.

The 60-year-old former Chelsea, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich manager - who has won the Champions League three times - has been dismissed as a result of Napoli's poor domestic form.

Napoli sits seventh in Serie A and their win against Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night was their first in 10 matches in all competitions.

After the Genk win put them through to the Champions League knockout stage, a Napoli statement read: "SSC Napoli has decided to revoke the role of the first-team coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti.

"The rapport of friendship, admiration and reciprocal respect between the club, it's president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact."

And now Goal.com claim that Arsenal 'will hold talks' with Ancelotti as they continue their search for a replacement for Unai Emery.

Freddie Ljungberg has been placed in interim charge while the Gunners hierarchy looks for a new manager.

The report adds that 'Arsenal's priority is a younger coach' but Ancelotti - who has also been linked with the Everton job - 'can't be ruled out' because of his vast experience at the top level of football.

Marcelino and Paulo Sousa have both been mentioned as potential targets, but Goal says neither are 'being viewed as a leading contender'.

Instead, Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta is the 'leading candidate' to succeed Emery with former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira 'viewed favourably'.
