Anichibe hails Defoe partnership

Cape Town - Sunderland striker Victor Anichibe has lavished praise on his strike partner Jermain Defoe after their impressive 3-0 Premier League victory over Hull City.

Defoe's goal on Saturday marked his 150th strike in the English top-flight while the robust Anichibe grabbed a second-half brace against the Tigers.

The result sees the Black Cats pick up back-to-back wins for the first time since May and subsequently move up to 19th at the expense of struggling Swansea.

In their last win against Bournemouth, before the international break, both strikers also played integral roles and they now have five goals between them in the two outings.

"JD [Defoe] has set me up twice now and he plays the ball into me with space, so I just have to get contact on it," the Nigeria striker said after the game.

"When the lights went off I said to him, 'I need to score, I need to score', and he said don't worry and I didn't need to because he found me."

"It's not just about me or JD, it's about the whole team.

"We've got back-to-back wins now and I said after the Bournemouth game that we needed to come here today and win, and that's what we did so now we have to go for the next result and we can't rest."

The Black Cats next travel to Anfield on Saturday where they will face Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team who will be looking to secure all three points after being held to a 0-0 draw against Southampton.

Kickoff is at 1700.
