Andy Robertson - Liverpool's unsung hero

Cape Town - If you watch him for 90 minutes, you will no doubt be out of breath.

Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s energetic left-back is something of an unsung hero for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Blessed with an engine that just doesn’t stop, the Scottish captain will run all day, whether it be in defence or attack.

Robertson is the epitome of the modern full-back. Always looking to create an overlap while never shirking from defensive duties.

Robertson so impressed against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, that even Jose Mourinho mentioned him. Yes, the Portuguese manager had something nice to say about a Liverpool player!

And it's not only Robertson’s energy that is noticeable.

The 24-year old has a wicked left foot, capable of delivery pinpoint crosses from the left. So far in the 2017/18 season, Robertson has contributed three assists in the English Premiership.

In fact, in 95 EPL appearances he has managed 12 assists in total. Not bad for a left-back at all!

But perhaps for Liverpool supporters, the best part about Robertson is the fact that he cost the Merseyside club just £8.5 million from Hull City.

Klopp took some time to get Robertson up to speed with his Liverpool system, but since December 2017, he has been a permanent fixture in the side.

And it's not difficult to see why.

Robertson offers more on attack than his nearest positional rival, Alberto Moreno, but it's also in defence where he shines.

In fact, Robertson manages a clean sheet 1 in every 4 matches.

That number has increased since he has been on Merseyside. Opposition wingers certainly have their work cut out to get the better of him.

And it is for all of these reasons that more and more Liverpool supporters are opting for the name Robertson, and the No 26 on the back of their replica Liverpool jerseys.
