Cape Town - Louis van Gaal's future at Manchester United remains uncertain after Co Adriaanse revealed the Dutchman would love to return to Ajax Amsterdam.
The 64-year-old, who has one year left on his contract with the Red Devils, has been criticized by fans and media for the style of play he has implemented at the club.
And after their 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, United could miss out on Champions league football next season.
Adriaanse, meanwhile, claims his compatriot is keen to re-join the club he managed to a 1995 Champions League triumph in a youth development role.
"In his heart Van Gaal aspires to become the head of youth training at Ajax," he said on Dutch TV show Studio Voetbal.
The 68-year-old feels the Manchester United boss recently turned down the opportunity of becoming the director of the Dutch FA because his long-term ambition is to end his career at de Godenzonen, whom he considers to have the best academy in European football.
"He aspires, he likes the best and that is what he's wanted for ten years."
