Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger says midfielder Jack Wilshere will show his “top-class potential” with a consistent run of games.
The England international has been in fine form during an exciting pre-season campaign in which the Gunners have won all four of their matches.
Wenger is delighted with Wilshere’s form and believes that an extended run in the first team will bring out the best of him.
“He’s a top-class player with a top-class potential,” the manager told arsenal.com.
“No matter how good you are in life, you need to have a consistent presence at the top.
“Today, what top-level sport doesn’t suffer is to be in and out because it’s too demanding physically [to stay in].
“What you wish for Jack is that he can compete now for six months without any problem, or for a year without any problem, and then you will see the player we all know he is.”
The 23-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer as an alternative to Juventus' Paul Pogba and Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne.
Wilshere made his Arsenal debut in 2008 and has gone on to earn 155 appearances in all competitions.
