Cape Town - Jack Wilshere insists his side have not under performed this season with the side looking at the positives from a tough start to the 2014/15 season.
"I think it's unfair [to say we have under performed]," the English midfielder told arsenal.com.
"Going forward we are in a confident place that we can get the points we need.
"Maybe we haven’t got the results we wanted in some games, where we drew when we should have won the game. But if you look back through the games like we do, there is a lot of positive stuff.
"OK, we need more points than we have in the [Premier League] table but going forward we are in a confident place that we can get the points we need. We have played some tough games as well so we are happy, but we know we can do better as well."
Wilshere also backed the team's rearguard after defensive lapses allowed Hull to score twice at Emirates Stadium.
"Maybe our biggest or strongest point is going forward but we know we can defend," he said.
"We have players who can put their foot in. We have players who organise things, in Flamini, and good defensive players."
The focus shifts to Europe on Wednesday with Wilshere and his team-mates in Brussels to take on Anderlecht.
Arsenal are three points adrift of Borussia Dortmund in Group D and Wilshere is determined to reel in the German side.
"That is the main goal, to win the group," he said. "In the past years we have tried to do that, even though we have had a tough group, like we did last year.
"We will try our best to continue the performance from our last European game [against Galatasaray] to get the win out here and be in a stronger position to assess the group, then see what we can do in the last three games."
