Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to extend his stay at the Gunners by a further two years.

Wenger’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, but according to a report on the GOAL.com website, the next contract will keep the Frenchman in charge of the club until June 2016.

Arsenal enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and are currently at the log summit with 16 points out of the 7 games played, with only a single defeat.

It is understood that the Frenchman wants to stay for personal as well as professional reasons. His family are settled in London, with his teenage daughter hoping to complete her secondary education in the capital, while he has almost complete autonomy over recruitment and the technical direction of the club.

Wenger has been at the helm of Arsenal since 1996, guiding them to three Premier League titles and four FA Cup triumphs.

The Gunners’ next Premier League instalment will be at home against Norwich City on Saturday.

Kickoff is at 16:00 (South African time).
