Vlaar in demand

Cape Town - Manchester United and Arsenal are in a battle to sign Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa are set to lose their battle to keep defender Ron Vlaar at the club according to the Express.

The two English Premiership rivals are both willing to considerably increase Vlaar's current wages, reported to be in the region of £25,000 per-week.

Reports indicate that Arsenal are leading the charge with a £8 million pound offer already in the prepared for January 1.

The 29-year-old defender is out of contract with Aston Villa at the end of the season but Aston Villa are still attempting to get Vlaar to agree to stay beyond June 2015.

Vlaar caught the eye of both Arsenal and Manchester United following an impressive World Cup campaign under current United boss, Louis van Gaal.
