Vlaar in demand

Cape Town - After impressing at the World Cup in Brazil, Ron Vlaar is being linked with a free transfer to Arsenal or Manchester United.

The Express report that Ron Vlaar is yet to hold talks over a new deal at Aston Villa.

Vlaar's current deal at Villa Park expires at the end of June next year and will be able to leave on a free should he fail to reach an agreement with Aston Villa.

Manchester United's defensive frailties are well documented while Arsenal are still chasing a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen after the Belgian departed for Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

United may have the edge over the Gunners should Vlaar choose to move on next season after Louis van Gaal mentored the centre back whilst in charge of the Dutch national side.
