Vlaar dismisses United rumours

Cape Town - Reported Manchester United target Ron Vlaar insists he has not been contacted about a potential reunion with former Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal.

The Aston Villa captain was linked with a move to Old Trafford almost immediately after Van Gaal was appointed to the Red Devils hotseat in the off-season.

Vlaar was a vital cog in the Oranje team that finished third at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil under the guidance of Van Gaal, who was expected to make a move for his compatriot, although a move never materialised.

There have since been suggestions that Van Gaal would rekindle his interest in the 29-year-old defender - whose contract at Villa Park expires at the end of the season - during the January transfer window.

But Vlaar denied ever having made contact with the 20-time English champions.

"I've never heard from them. If a club had really wanted me, I would have noticed. That has not been the case," Football411 quotes Vlaar as saying.
