Vertonghen after another 100

Cape Town - After playing 100 games for Spurs, defender Jan Vertonghen is aiming to play another 100 for the London club.

The Belgian defender told the club's website that he wants to stay at the club for some time further and aims to play another 100 games for Spurs.

Jan Vertonghen recored his milestone appearance as Spurs were held to a goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“We tried everything but couldn’t create too many chances,” said Vertonghen.

“We did our best to break them down but they were tough and defended well and dangerous up front, so it was very difficult.

“We gave a couple of chances away and too many set-pieces, nine corners against us was too much, but we kept a clean sheet and that’s good, we didn’t lose and that’s important.

“We all know Hugo is an exceptional goalkeeper and he made some great saves.”

Vertonghen joined the White Hart Lane club in 2012 from Ajax Amsterdam and wants to remain in London with Spurs for the long term.

The defender said: “The supporters, manager and my team-mates have always supported me and I’m happy to play my 100th game. I hope I can go to 200 now.”
