Cape Town - Real Madrid have slapped a £20 million price-tag on the head of French international defender Raphael Varane.
English Premiership duo Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign the Real Madrid defender according to the Express.
Chelsea are looking for a long term replacement for John Terry while Manchester United are still struggling to deal with the departure of Nemanja Vidic but both clubs have been handed a boost in their bid to recruit a world class centre back.
Varane, a former target of Sir Alex Ferguson, will reportedly be allowed to leave the Spanish giants if the asking price of £20 million is met.
Carlo Ancelotti has not installed Varane as a first team regular which may tempt the France international to ponder a move to the English Premiership.
Madrid have Spanish born defender Nacho as backup to the first team options.
