Varane could quit Los Blancos

Cape Town - A contract extension for Real Madrid's Portugal defender Pepe could spell the end of Raphael Varane's time at Real Madrid, according to reports.

The Daily Star report that France international defender, Raphael Varane, could opt to end his time in Spain - if Carlo Ancelotti continues to overlook him.

Varane, known as a "luxury substitute", has been unable to oust Pepe from the Madrid starting line-up and is unhappy about his status in the Champions League holder's side.

"The competition with Pepe is not in my best interests, and it won't be in the future." said Varane.

"The objective is to be on the pitch."

Manchester United and Chelsea are both monitoring the situation at the Santiago Bernabeu and could tempt Madrid with a £35 million offer to part ways with the 21-year-old defender.

The writing appears to be on the wall for Varane after Ancelotti said: ""Ramos and Pepe are among the best defenders in the world."

The Red Devils are also reportedly keen on Pepe, should Ancelotti opt to keep Varane in Spain.
