Van Persie dismisses Serie A talk

Cape Town - Talk of a move to Lazio or Roma are untrue, says Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

With just one season left on his current Old Trafford deal and coming off a poor season personally, the Dutch striker has been linked with a cut-price move to the Serie A.

According to teamtalk.com, speculation of his imminent departure from Manchester was increased last week when the former Arsenal star was spotted in Rome.

However, the player has now distanced himself from the transfer rumours, saying that his visit to Italy was merely for a well-deserved holiday.

"All the rumours about Rome as a city are true: it is a beautiful place," Van Persie told Voetbal International.

"I have a life away from football and I always wanted to visit Rome with my wife and this was our chance. We enjoyed it very much."

Van Persie admitted earlier in the week that he has some thinking to do regarding his future.

"It is my ambition to play as many games as possible (next season). I feel fitter than ever," Van Persie said.

"And I know that the more games I play, the more it will help me prepare for the European Championships [in France] next summer.
