Cape Town - Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will look to bring an a creative midfielder in the summer transfer window.

According to manutd.com, the Dutch manager answered "Of course, of course" when asked whether a new midfielder would be signed by the club when the transfer window reopens on July 1.

"I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield. When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player.

"So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team."

Manchester United stalwart Michael Carrick remains on the injured list while Daley Blind's injury against Burnley forced van Gaal to use Wayne Rooney in a deep lying midfield role.

When asked if Rooney is content playing in a midfield position, the boss answered: "He is happy. Otherwise, he should come to me and say: 'I am not happy', but he never does. He is always friendly to me and wants to perform what I want.

"That is what I see, but, when the whole world is writing that he has to be in the striker's position, he shall be thinking ' hey' as he is human."

Manchester United travel to face Preston North End in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday evening.

The match kicks off at 21:45.
