Cape Town - Former Manchester United defender and club captain, Gary Neville, believes his former side's squad does not need a complete overhaul in the summer.

Teamtalk report that Manchester United must sign three new players, according to Gary Neville.

Neville says Louis van Gaal should prioritise bringing in a centre-back, midfielder and winger in order to convert his side into title contenders.

"Three months ago I'd have said Chelsea are way in front of us. Now not as far," Neville told The Sun.

"If they can continue doing what they have been doing for the rest of the season, they can look towards next season with optimism.

"They will feel confident that they can challenge Chelsea for the title.

"United need to continue to improve in two or three positions -  a central defender, midfielder and a winger.

"I don't think this summer is a case of a total restructure of the squad.

"It is a case of trading well. I think three coming in and one or two going out rather than wholesale buying. I don't expect another £150m spend."

Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to tackle the league leaders Chelsea.

The match kicks off at 18:30.
