Torres 1 Pope 0

London - A cancer-stricken boy who was recently blessed by the Pope said meeting Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was an even better experience.

According to British tabloid The Sun, nine-year-old Anton McManus wrote to the pontiff asking him to help keen his cancer away and was then blessed by the church leader after his Mass in the Park in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park in September.

But the nine year old said being greeted by Fernando Torres last weekend was even more exciting.

Anton’s dad, Kevin told The Sun that his son was introduced to Torres after Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Bolton last Sunday and when he asked Anton which meeting he felt was more exciting, he said “probably Torres”.

The proud dad added: "Wee boys really look up to footballers.

"I've never seen Anton so excited as when Torres came up to him.

"The kit man at Bolton arranged the treat. He also met Stevie Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. He was so thrilled it was impossible to get the smile off his face."

Kevin revealed that so far this year his son has met three of his four biggest heroes - the Pope, Torres and Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

The only one left to complete the set is Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

Kevin added: "That would be stunning."
