Toon in the market for a striker

Cape Town - Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is confident that he will be able to sign a striker ahead the new English Premiership season.

The Magpies boss will work up right up until deadline day to add a striker to his squad, according to the Chronicle.

Speaking after his side's friendly win against Sheffield Wednesday, Pardew said he was happy with his squad and the progress new recruits.

Newcastle have signed six players so far and Pardew wants to add at least one more to that list.

"I think looking at our squad we’re still shy of a striker." said the Newcastle manager.

"And that would be ideal if we could get one that suited the club and we’ll take that forward."

Newcastle face defending champions Manchester City on August 17 in the opening round of English Premiership fixtures.
