Cape Town - Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has admitted that he is looking to leave the struggling Premier League club.
The Ivory Coast international joined the Magpies in August 2010 and his combative performances in the midfield soon saw him become a vital part of the first team.
However, with Newcastle languishing in 19th place after three draws and three losses, Tiote has decided that he needs a change of scenery.
"I want to leave. I've spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it's maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge,” he told media in the Ivory Coast.
"I will focus on upcoming games and let's see what happens between now and December.
"It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I'd prefer to stay in England."
Tiote’s confession will come as a blow to Newcastle and the club’s under-fire manager Alan Pardew.
Newcastle’s next fixture sees them travel to Wales to face high-flying Swansea, who hold fifth place on the table after two losses, a draw and three wins – including one against Manchester United.
