Cape Town - Louis van Gaal has admitted he will try bring a creative midfielder to the club in the summer and Manchester United fans will be relieved to hear this good news.

With hundreds of players linked with the club every transfer window, Sport24's, Wade Pretorius, looks at five players who Louis van Gaal should be scouting - based on factors including availability, price, wages, injuries, form and adaptability to the English Premiership.

The FIVE realistic midfield transfer targets for Manchester United:

1. Koke (Atletico Madrid)

Possibly the toughest player of this list to lure to Old Trafford, Koke already seen as a complete player but a stumbling block to any potential deal is that the Spanish star does have a contract with the defending La Liga champions that only expires in 2019 - meaning he will only leave for a huge fee.

At just 23, this talented midfielder has already turned down a move to Barcelona and has been extensively scouted by Manchester United's previous manager, David Moyes.

2. Yohan Cabaye (Paris St Germain)

The former Newcastle star has not settled in Paris but this should not be seen as a fair reflection on Cabaye's qualities.

Cabaye could be sold to Manchester United in order to free up some space on the PSG roster, allowing the French giants to abide by the FFP rules while allowing Manchester United to bring in a midfielder worthy of donning the famous Red Devils jersey.

3. Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)

Reportedly open to the prospect of leaving the German champions, van Gaal has already played a major role in the Schweinsteiger's career.

Could the central midfielder repay the faith shown by his former Dutch mentor and help transform Manchester United back into title contenders?

4. Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle United)

Sissoko is being monitored by several leading English clubs as well as Ligue 1 giants and for good reason.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been key to Newcastle's resurgence this season and could offer van Gaal's midfielder the versatility that it craves.

5. Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

The cheapest option on this list as the German international is available to leave on a free transfer in July, Khedira would bring a wealth of experience to the club.

There is no doubt that Louis van Gaal would need to offer Sami Khedira an incredible deal in order to convince him to snub Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
