Tevez: I must leave

Cape Town - Carlos Tevez has promised a stunning show for Manchester City on Monday night - but he is just as eager to quit the club, reports The Sun.

Tevez is expected to have the captain's armband taken off him against Everton following his written transfer request.

But the unhappy Argentinian striker has vowed to keep giving 100 percent, even though City fans are likely to get on his back.

A source close to Tevez said: "Carlos isn't the sort of player who will go missing in a game because he thinks it will persuade the club to let him go.

"He wouldn't try a trick like that. He will be giving it everything as usual. Don't be surprised if he gets a hat-trick.

"No one can question Carlos' performances for City. They have always been of a high standard.

"But nothing has changed regarding his transfer request. He wants to leave."

Yet he may face a chorus of boos from the Eastlands faithful.

Dave Wallace, editor of King of the Kippax fanzine, warned: "There is a bit of resentment from the fans. If he's adamant he's going to go there's no point in keeping an unhappy player."

The captaincy is expected to revert back to current vice-captain Kolo Toure, who held the position last season.

City chairperson Khaldoon Al Mubarak will be at tonight's game.

He and owner Sheikh Mansour are determined not to sell Tevez in the January transfer window.

One possible course of action is to persuade Tevez to stay until May with the promise his situation will be looked at again if he is still unhappy.
