Spurs chase Everton's McCarthy

Cape Town - Irish midfielder James McCarthy is a top transfer target for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail report that Tottenham Hotspur "want to launch a bid" to sign midfielder James McCarthy from Everton.

The Republic of Ireland international still has three years left on his current deal at Goodison Park which means Spurs may have to part with either Aaron Lennon and Younes Kaboul in order to complete the deal.

Kaboul has been deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane while pacy winger Aaron Lennon spent the last half of the season at Everton and looks set to be included Spurs' bid to sign McCarthy after impressing at the Toffees.

McCarthy arrived from Wigan Athletic in 2013 as he followed manager Roberto Martinez to Merseyside.

McCarthy is rumoured to be unhappy at Goodison Park because the club have not offered him a new deal.

Spurs may look to exploit this tension as they look to bolster their options in the centre of midfield following Paulinho's exit from the club.
