Cape Town - Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes the Toon have a grim
fight for Premier League survival ahead of them.
The former England skipper was at the helm last time the club suffered relegation and fears the Magpies could suffer the same fate under Alan Pardew unless there is a drastic improvement.
"I don't hold out too much hope for us," said Newcastle's record-breaking goalscorer.
"I think it could be a long, hard season."
According to the Mirror, Shearer, who still owns a box seat at St James’ Park, admits it hasn’t been a great joy to watch the games.
"It hasn't been pleasant watching to be honest," said Shearer, speaking ahead of a dinner next month which will be held in his honour to raise funds for the Stroke Association.
"I'm exactly the same as the fans, I'm one of them. I pay my ticket and am entitled to my opinion.
"It's been poor since January and the quicker we can get out of it, the better."
