Shaqiri's agent speaks out

Cape Town - Liverpool's hopes of bringing Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield in January have been dashed by the player's agent.

Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri will not be leaving the club according to  insidefutbol.com.

The 23-year-old Swiss international faces a "difficult situation" according to his agent.

Ulisse Savini, the player's agent told Italian radio station Centro Suono Sport: "It is a difficult situation right now.

"I doubt he can switch in January.

"He has played in the Champions League and cannot be used there [by another club].

"This complicates the agreement, since it would be for a lot of money.

"And I doubt that Bayern can find a replacement of his level."

The winger has been unable to convince Pep Guardiola that he can become a first team regular and is growing restless on the fringes of the German champions squad.

Liverpool may have to wait until the end of the season if they want to make another attempt to secure a deal for Shaqiri.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
