Cape Town - Manchester United look set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin.

Starsport report that Manchester United are expected to sign Southampton's wantaway midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin, in a deal worth £20 million.

The 25-year-old French midfielder appears to have won his battle to convince his club to allow him to pursue his dream of playing of Champions League football.

The French international has repeatedly stated his desire to play in Europe's elite competition and looks set to seal a move to Manchester United, according to reports in England.

Schneiderlin told the Daily Star: "The talks are ongoing and should be completed soon."

The Red Devils are reportedly set to offer the player his Champions League chance after doubling his current £60,000-a-week deal.

Schneiderlin join Manchester United in order to provide backup to verteran midfielder Michael Carrick, the latter's career seemingly winding down at Old Traffrod.

A deal for Schneiderlin would appear to rule out a sensational bid to bring Bastian Schweinsteiger to Old Trafford this summer.
