Cape Town - Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that striker Daniel
Sturridge will not receive an England call-up after talks with Three
Lions boss Roy Hodgson.
There appeared to be some bad blood between club and country after the 25-year-old picked up an injury on international duty after being told to join full training on what would normally have been a recovery day.
Rodgers seemed to perpetuate the supposed feud by making Sturridge unavailable for the international break next week, regardless of his fitness for the Reds.
However, the Ulsterman has revealed that he has held lengthy talks with Hodgson and it was agreed that the Anfield ace would be left out of the squad for the qualifiers San Marino and Estonia.
"I spoke to Roy. I am not sure if Daniel will be fit for the weekend so I think at this moment he won't be in the squad," Rodgers told reporters after the 1-0 defeat to FC Basel on Wednesday.
"I think over the next couple of weeks Daniel has to get up to speed and hopefully after the international break he will be able to play for us, which is the priority."
Sturridge has missed six games for the Merseysiders since picking up the injury, with the team faltering in his absence after suffering three defeats in the league, with their two wins in that time coming over Ludogorets and Middlesbrough.
