Reds to assess injured duo

Cape Town - Liverpool have suffered a double injury blow after their 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad last night.

Reds defensive duo Glen Johnson and Alberto Moreno both suffered knocks during the defeat and according to Sky Sports, the Merseyside club will be assessing the extent of the injuries today.

30-year-old right-back Glen Johnson limped off late in the second half, forcing the Reds to finish with ten men. Moreno then fell awkwardly on his ankle minutes before full-time and may well have been substituted if Liverpool hadn't already used up all three substitutions and weren't already down to ten men.

Brendan Rodgers hopes the injuries aren't too serious and that the England and Spain internationals will be back to full strength in no time.

The loss at City may have been an early indication of the current difference between the champions and one of the favourites to challenge this season, but there are still 36 league games to go in the campaign and, with the arrival of Balotelli, who knows what lies in store for Liverpool.
