Cape Town - With out-of-favour Pepe Reina having left the club, Liverpool are in the market for a goalkeeper to provide some competition for Simon Mignolet.
According to the Metro, the Merseyside club have opened talks with Italian club Sampdoria over a proposed move for Argentine World Cup goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Romero has been given the green light to leave the club despite his impressive performance for his country in Brazil.
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Monaco, and while Sampdoria would prefer to sell the glovesman for around £2m, they are not against the idea of another loan agreement if Liverpool prefer that arrangement.
