Reds battle to extend Sterling deal

Cape Town - England star attacking midfielder Raheem Sterling is happy to delay signing a new deal according to reports.

The Daily Mail report that Liverpool are not having any luck in trying to tie down Raheem Sterling to a new long term deal.

Sterling, who has started the season in fine form, is currently on a package in the region of £1.5 million a year at Anfield but the deal expires in 2017.

There was much speculation in the summer that Real Madrid are interested in luring the player to Spain at the end of the season.

Despite there being no immediate concern that the player could leave on a free, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Sterling is an integral part of the team's long term future and would like to get a deal in place for the 19-year-old.

Liverpool face West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Saturday, October 4 at 16:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
