Ramires pens new Chelsea deal

London - Brazilian midfielder Ramires has extended his Chelsea contract until 2019, the Premier League champions announced on Thursday.

Since signing from Benfica in 2010, the dynamic central midfielder has made 241 appearances for the club and collected five trophies, including the 2012 Champions League and last season's league title.

"My family and I are very happy here in London and in the past five years the club has lifted every major trophy," the 28-year-old said in a statement on the Chelsea website.

"I hope to be an important part of many more successes in the next four years."

Ramires, whose previous contract was due to expire in 2017, has won over 50 caps for Brazil and was a member of the squad that finished fourth as hosts of last year's World Cup.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
