QPR targeting Bafana star

Soweto - Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela, has been targeted by English Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers.

Mphela is the top scorer in this year’s PSL campaign, with nine goals to his name so far and his form has been brought to the attention of QPR by Rob Moore, the agent who is speaking with the club over a possible transfer for fellow South African, Steven Pienaar.

The London-based club have been linked with three South Africans of late, with Daylon Claasen also being said to be on their radar.

Now, it appears that they are assessing whether the 27-year-old former SuperSport United man could be good enough to join their ranks.

Mphela's agent, Glyn Binkin, confirmed that QPR had shown some interest in the Bafana Bafana striker. Binkin explained, “Yes, Mphela is one of a few options that QPR are looking at.”

Mphela went for trials with Glasgow Celtic in Scotland recently although did not do enough to impress the Scottish giants.

Despite the forward being linked with the club, Sundowns have confirmed that they have not received any form of offer. “There has been no formal offers come in for Mphela,” said Yogesh Singh, the club’s legal and commercial manager.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
