Pienaar close to Toffees return

Johannesburg - Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar's permanent return to Everton looks to be on the cards with the two clubs having opened talks over a deal.

The South African international captain was instrumental in the Toffees' late-season surge after returning to Goodison Park on loan last season, netting four times in 14 appearances.

David Moyes's side have not hidden their desire to bring the 30-year-old back to the blue half of Merseyside, where he remains a fan favourite.

According to Sky Sports, a transfer of around £5 million is close to fruition, with Everton hopeful of sowing up the move next week.
