Pep rules out Di Maria swoop

Cape Town - Manchester United playmaker Angel Di Maria will not be heading to the Allianz Arena after Pep Guardiola confirmed his club were not in the running to sign the former Real Madrid star.

talkSPORT report that Bayern Munich are not interested in a deal for the Argentine winger.

Di Maria swapped Spain for the England last summer, after sealing a club record £59.7 million move to Manchester United and despite starting brightly in the Premier League, critics ultimately labelled the Argentine a failure in his debut Premier League season.

The Argentina star has stated that he wants to stay at the club despite struggling to cement his place in the starting lineup. Adding further stress to his on field troubles, the Argentine's home was subject to robbery during the season.

Paris St Germain retain an interest in the former Real Madrid star but there was speculation that German champions Bayern Munich could make a move for Di Maria in the summer.

Pep Guardiola has now distanced his club from a potential swoop for Di Maria.

"I don't have to watch Argentina games, because I know him and his style of playing very well," Guardiola said about Di Maria.

"United did not pay so much money for nothing, he is a great player. Although such transfer fees are sometimes really crazy."

The former Barcelona manager was then pressed to indicate if Bayern were plotting a move, Pep replied: "No".
