Cape Town - Gary Neville is in agreement with the chorus of former players who have slammed the waist high tackle that saw Wayne Rooney given a straight red.
While the Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has accepted full responsibility for his sending off against West Ham on Saturday, former teammate Gary Neville has slammed the player for committing a stupid mistake.
The England international was shown a straight red card midway through the second-half of this past weekend's Old Trafford encounter after kicking out at Stewart Downing as the midfielder threatened to break on the counter-attack.
"Rooney can have no arguments whatsoever," said Neville.
"You do want to break play up but the mistake Rooney makes is the height of the contact.
"It's stupid, it's instinctive. United can't afford to lose any more players and he's going to be missing for a month now with a big game against Chelsea coming up."
