Mphela, Shabba for Blues?

2010-07-13 13:01

Johannesburg - Katlego Mphela and Siphiwe Tshabalala could find themselves playing together for more than just the national team in August.

The Bafana Bafana duo are club rivals with 'Killer' turning out for Mamelodi Sundowns, while 'Shabba' marauds up the left wing for Kaizer Chiefs.

However, with the striker and midfielder both garnering interest from Birmingham City, they could be representing the same side when the English Premier League season kicks off.

Alex McLeish faces stiff competition from Bolton for Mphela's services, while Wigan are also tracking Tshabalala.

The Sundowns striker seemed to be the Blues' main target, but with the Brazilians seeking a big payout, Mphela's dream move could fall through.

McLeish is refusing to unnecessarily break the bank for players, telling his side's official website: "With some players it's quite difficult to get over the line because of the prices that some clubs are asking for them.

"Of course they're entitled to ask what they want, but we're not quite meeting their valuations.

"But we will keep persevering until we've gone as far as we think we can go and then if it doesn't happen we'll look to 'Plan B'."

Sundowns have reiterated that they will only release Mphela if they feel the price is right, while Tshabalala is highly valued by Amakhosi.

Good boys, i think you deserve it...its your time to go and rock the world... Unlike that sissy called Teko Modise

  • George Best - 2010-07-13 13:25

.....and the eastern Limpopo Junior Reserve League is tracking Teko Modise

  • msando - 2010-07-13 13:47

These deals will most probably fall off. Average European clubs don't value African players as much as we value them. The sad part is that the big clubs won't even glance our direction due to our lack of quality. Nonetheless, all the best to the gents.

  • @George Best - 2010-07-13 13:51

    haai maan!

  • Mike - 2010-07-13 13:52

Eish! Go for L J R League, Teko. That will be a great move. You will be the only star with your Soccer World Cup cut. go for it!

  • sokza - 2010-07-13 13:52

even though money is important but not everything should be about it, sometimes we must let go for the sake of a player progress and the country name. the asking price for Simphiwe Tshabalala by kaizer chiefs is a bit high. Simphiwe and Katlego deserve a move abroad

  • THE MAN - 2010-07-13 13:53

gents dont go you will just become another bench warmer for another foreigner and lose you bafana bafana spot, look at the south africans that have gone abroad they all became hasbeens

  • Loxx - 2010-07-13 13:54

    lol + 1 @ George Best

  • Hahahahah - 2010-07-13 13:56

I heard in da latest news that he's undergoing a surgery of some sort and he'll be playing for Banyana Banyana.

  • Ant - 2010-07-13 13:58

OK, so who are the Blues? Clearly not Chelsea - are Birmingham City in the premiership? Who even knew they had a nickname? But I guess even if it is a lowly premiership team, it will be good exposure for the boys. I hope this lot manage to pay their players, unlike Portsmouth. Good luck - I hope Sundowns let them go.

  • @George Best - 2010-07-13 14:01

....No i heard they have dropped their interest as he still needs to grow up a little more and maybe gain some strength.

  • Stannyboy - 2010-07-13 14:02

The international club that makes an offer for ESIDOM (MODISE) spelt backwards, is DEFINITELY E Si DOM.

  • karabo - 2010-07-13 14:02

people what are you on about; fact is Modise is one of the best players in SA. he is not on top form, but he is still better than the average player

  • Sam - 2010-07-13 14:12

    Teko who?

  • Stephen - 2010-07-13 14:14

I hope the move happens for them, but why Birmingham? Aston Villa is the pride of the Midlands. Good luck, it is about time more SA players went to play in a stronger league than the Mickey Mouse PSL. Look at Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria etc, the core of their sides are based in strong European leagues, where they meet quality opposition every week.

  • Simon says - 2010-07-13 15:00

Teko has people worried, he was last seen running onto the field against mexico, but has not been seen since.

  • old mamamia - 2010-07-13 15:12

    shame Teko shame ,,

  • mike hibbert - 2010-07-13 15:46

SHABBA for Mancheser City please!! We will see him develop into a top class midfielder then. FOREVER CITY, FOREVER BLUE

  • Kylee - 2010-07-13 16:16

    @ant - you're an idiot

  • Molatelo - 2010-07-13 22:17

Teko is a great player, i wish he could be snatched/signed by a top English club. Some South African who think that they know football once condemned Carlos Quiroz and what happed to Quiroz thereafter, he joined Man United and Real Madrid, the same would happen to Teko. Stop condemning Teko at least he is representing most of you 'cattle' (dikgomo).

  • STEVE - 2010-07-14 02:48

Teko Modise is still wet behind his ears, dont ever refer to him as a best player. Best players rise to the occasion when chips are down, you hardly see him in the pitch. The boy is skillful but technically poor. If he can improve on those aspects of the game, he stand a chance of plying his trade overseas. Denmark and Norway are the only oveseas country where he can play.

  • dronkie - 2010-07-14 07:29

Would be a good move for both of them as they would get regular game time playing against TOP sides.....they both potentially could develop into top players for the next for TEKO - go back to basics bra, you not a star yet !!!

  • Sam - 2010-07-14 10:12

Having staged best ever worldcup on African soil ,l would have loved at least to see an African team in semis .Yes they did us proud .LASTLY Shabba,Killer and Teko must go oversea for them to to gain exposure to bigger opponents. . This will benefit the country in 2014 Brazil .We lack that international exeperience .

  • Happy Mokhonoana - 2010-07-14 13:17

I think Simphiwe and Katlego are very good players, they deserve the best price.I also think all that SAFA has learned something in terms of taking a coach. The only thing they should do is bring back Backer as the coach and take Lucas and Tovey as the assistance. This is the only way our national team can go forth and be on the better position.Since he won the AFCON no other coach has done that for our nation.

  • THE SPECIAL ONE - 2010-07-14 13:35

Molatelo you are talking rubbish, you call a cow like Teko a great player? I suppose you are in the same level of stupidity as Teko. That boy lacks basic football skills and there is no top club overseas who could spend their money foolishly on Teko, not even the relegated Portsmouth can waste their money nge nkomo engu Teko. Your judgement leaves a lot to be desired! Le nkomo izofela khona ku pie rats

  • roonie "shibobo" - 2010-07-14 17:57

just because sipihwe score the opening goal of the world cup and mphela is top goal scorer does not make teko a bad player i agree he dont play good these days they got a lot to learn and the only way to do that is playing abroad so sipihwe and katlego go and make a name for your self there is no way they can make a nae for them self in our league we cant even play in the final of the african champoinship league because the people running this league dont worry about the payers they only worry about how much bonuses they can put in there pockets

  • RHULANI - 2010-07-17 13:22

  • thabo - 2010-07-22 00:18

  • SBU K - 2010-07-27 11:45

  • TUMELO RICHARD THEKA - 2010-07-28 10:05

Wish them luck and may their negotiations go well, they deserve to play abroad.

  • Fani Nkwinika - 2010-07-28 10:58
