Johannesburg - Everton manager David Moyes is hoping that South African midfielder Steven Pienaar will remain at the club beyond his current contract.
Pienaar has already turned down a renewed offer as he looks towards an end-of-season exit.
A number of clubs including Tottenham Hotpsur have been linked with the 28-year-old, who joined the Toffees initially on loan in 2007.
And a move in January could materialise if Everton hope to cash in on their star player.
Moyes said: "I'd like to think we could see if there's room for manoeuvre.
"I've tried to leave the door open as long as I can. We'd be delighted to keep him."
