Mourinho pleased with progress

Cape Town - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is cautiously optimistic that his side is on the right track following a slow start to the season.

Chelsea beat Arsenal at home on Saturday to record the 2014/15 Premier League champions first back-to-back wins for the season, a much need boost to team morale.

"I know that we had very good things," Mourinho told the Chelsea website.

"I saw some things back in the team, some qualities, but the same way two defeats don't kill a team, I don't think two victories bring the team to the top. Let's go match after match and try to get a result on Wednesday."

Mourinho was left happy following his side's 2-0 win over Arsenal, particularly pleasing to the Portuguese manager was his side's defensive shape.

"I liked that the team was compact, everybody was defending, the attacking players made a fantastic contribution in that defensive work. In the first minute, we lost some passes, you could feel still a little bit of not great confidence to play, but after that we got back the stability, moving the ball well and good positional play."

Walsall host Chelsea in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday evening.
