Chelsea ordered to destroy

Cape Town - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has called on his team to 'destroy' opponents by maintaining the intensity for the full 90 minutes in games.

The Blues were scintillating early on in their 2-0 English Premier League win over Hull City on Sunday before taking their foot off the gas.

Mourinho was happy with the way they started against the Tigers, but wants them to be on top form for the whole game when they host Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

"If we do that, we destroy an opponent," he told the Sky Sports website.

"Playing that way you have to score goals, even if the opposing goalkeeper saves a penalty.

"We want to win matches, but what I like is that when you have the chance to destroy to beat them by three, four, or five, we have to do it.

"If someone has the chance to do it to you, they will not forgive you, they will give you nothing.

"If someone feels that they can do it to us they will do it - when you are in trouble, they smash you - so if we have the chance to do it, we have to do it. That is football."

Wednesday's game at Stamford Bridge starts at 20:45 (SA time).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
