Modric set for Spurs' SA tour

Despite the furor over his future, Tottenham Hotspur star Luka Modric is still set to fly to South Africa for the club's pre-season tour.

The 25-year-old has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea, and caused a contrpversy after claiming that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy threatened not play him if the midfielder continued his plea to leave for Chelsea.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea are keeping mum on whether a deal is being bandied about for the Croatian international, but it is believed the Blues have tabled an improved offer in the region of £27 million.

Modric's agent Nikki Arthur Vuksan confirmed his client will play in the Vodacom Challenge tournament with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

"Of course Luka will be going to South Africa," said Vuksan. "He is a Tottenham player and he has a contract there."

Spurs' first match is on Saturday against Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
