McIlroy parades Claret Jug at Old Trafford

Cape Town - Golfing superstar, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, was honoured at half-time in the Manchester United v Swansea English Premiership clash on Saturday.

As it happened: Manchester United v Swansea

McIlroy, the undisputed world No 1 on the fairways of the world, was honoured at Old Trafford for his feat in winning this year's Open Championship at Hoylake.

McIlroy went on to clinch the year's final Major, the PGA Championship, to cement his spot atop the rankings.

McIlroy's presence did nothing to inspire United who went down 2-1 in their opening clash of the 2014/15 season.
